The Venues

With over 1,000 participants expected, we’ve arranged to hold GIJC19 at two state-of-the-art, nearby locations: Der Spiegel publishing house (address: Ericusspitze 1, 20457 Hamburg) and the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU; address; Überseeallee 16, 20457 Hamburg). Their new buildings offer excellent conference infrastructure, a comfortable working atmosphere and integrated catering facilities.

We will also hold sessions at MS Stubnitz, a significant monument in the German ship-building and fishing history (address: Kirchenpauerkai 29, 20457 Hamburg), and Designxport, a design agency (address: Hongkongstraße 8, 20457 Hamburg).

HafenCity University

Conference sessions will be held at Hafencity University and MS Stubnitz on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, sessions will be split between the university and Der Spiegel, but lunch will only be available at the university. On Sunday, sessions will be held at Der Spiegel and Designxport. It’s a ten minute walk between Hafencity University and Der Speigel.

HafenCity is a new and growing quarter in the heart of Hamburg’s harbor – located a short distance from other parts of the city center and interesting places like the new Elbphilharmonie (Elbe Philharmonic Hall).

Hamburg’s entertainment district St. Pauli/Reeperbahn — filled with bars, music clubs, restaurants and theaters — is just a stone’s throw away. Transportation is convenient as subway stations are located just a few steps from the buildings. The nearest station to Hafencity University is the U-Bahn subway line U4 HafenCity Universität station and the nearest tube station to the Spiegel buildings is the U-Bahn U1 Meßberg station.

They lead to the main station (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof) in just 6 minutes and to the airport in 30 minutes.

The venue allows the participants to choose between various accommodations (and prices), all reachable in a short time on foot or by public transport.
